Jase: Is “Vira Guard” a medicine for viral or bacterial infections?

Kimmi: No. It is an elderberry, echinacea and olive-leaf herbal syrup. It does not replace vaccination, antibiotics when prescribed, or medical care.

Jase: When should a parent stop waiting?

Kimmi: Seek urgent advice for breathing trouble, unusual drowsiness, dehydration, a seizure, a non-blanching rash or a very unwell child. Infants can deteriorate quickly.

Use adult supervision and measure the age-based dose carefully. Check for echinacea or daisy-family allergies, and ask a health professional before use with regular medicines or immune-system conditions.

Directions

Recommended Dosage: Take the recommended dose by age group 3 times per day as a preventative. At the first sign of a viral or bacterial infection, take the recommended dose by age group 5 times per day. If no improvement after 2 to 3 days, seek professional medical advice.

• Infants 0-1 years: 0.5ml (10 drops)
• Children 1-2 years: 1 to 2ml (1⁄4 metric teaspoon)
• Children 2-5- years: 2 to 3 ml (1⁄2 metric teaspoon)
• Children 5 years and over: 5 ml (1 metric teaspoon)

Syrup may be warmed a little to enable easier pouring or drawing dose into the syringe.

Cautions: Check for known allergies to ingredients. If unwell and no improvement after 2 to 3 days, seek professional medical advice. Always read the label and use as directed.
