Kimmi: What is in this “deep lung” tonic?
Jase: A broad herbal and essential-oil blend, including menthol, eucalyptus, juniper, coltsfoot, horehound, licorice and iodine.
Kimmi: Can someone use it instead of getting breathing trouble checked?
Jase: No. Severe or sudden breathlessness, blue lips, chest pain, confusion or coughing blood needs urgent help. Persistent cough, wheeze, fever, smoker’s symptoms or worsening breathing needs medical assessment.
The label lists important contraindications for liver, kidney, blood-pressure and low-potassium conditions. Coltsfoot and several essential oils also warrant caution. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. The supplied child directions are fractions of a wide adult dose; do not give this product to a baby or child without specific professional advice.
Directions
Suggested Use: Make sure you shake the bottle vigorously before taking a dose. Our recommended dosage is 10-20mls for adults taken 3 to 4 times per day. Swill the tonic in your mouth for 10 seconds before swallowing.
Children may take half the recommended adult dose and babies (over 1 year) may take a quarter of the recommended adult dose.
Important: Because the adult dose is given as a broad range and this formula contains multiple essential oils and herbs, do not calculate a child or baby dose from this sentence without advice from a qualified health professional.
Contraindications: Include cholestatic liver disorders, liver cirrhosis, hypertension, hypokalemia, and severe kidney deficiency.
